Eukaryotic mRNA 3' processing: A common means to different ends
Article Abstract:
The formation of the 3' end of a eukaryotic m RNA involves the hydrolysis of a single phosphodiester bond in the nascent transcript except for one unique class of mRNA, for which transcripts of the metazoan replication-dependent histone genes are required. It is indicated by the evidences that the mechanisms by which the ends of histone and polyadenylated mRNA are formed are fundamentally distinct both in the factors responsible for processing and the RNA sequence elements that direct their actions.

Analysis of a noncanonical poly(A) site reveals a tripartite mechanism for vertebrate poly(A) site recognition
Article Abstract:
The processing of constitutive poly(A) sites is examined in detail along with the fundamental mechanisms responsible for the regulation of alternative ploy(A) site selection. The recognition of three distinct sequence elements by CFI(sub m), CPSF, and CstF suggests that vertebrate ploy(A) site definition is mechanistically more similar to that of yeast and plants than anticipated.

A new yeast PUF family protein, Puf6p, represses ASH1 mRNA translation and is required for its localization
Article Abstract:
The ASH1 locasome is isolated and the associated proteins by MALDI-TOF are characterized to study the mechanism regulating ASH1 mRNA translation. Puf6p, a protein that functions in the translational control of ASH1 MRNA is proposed and this translational inhibition is necessary before localization can proceed.
