Expression of a tetraheme protein, Desulfovibrio vulgaris Miyazaki F cytochrome c(sub)3, in Shewanella oneidensis MR-1

Article Abstract:

Research demonstrates plasmid-mediated successful heterologous expression of cytochrome c(sub)3 between two bacterial species. Data show that expressed cytochrome protein is indistinguishable from the original host cytochrome except for an extra alanine residue in the former.

Seasonal and spatial variability in Lake Michigan sediment small-subunit rRNA concentrations

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the microbial small-subunit rRNAs. The distribution of these rRNAs in Lake Michigan offshore sediments has been investigated via molecular biological methods, and the results indicate that the nitrogen cycling in these sediments may have a seasonal component.

Current production and metal oxide reduction by Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 wild type and mutants

Article Abstract:

Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 is a gram-negative facultative anaerobe that is used for reducing Mn(IV) and Fe(III) oxides and producing current in microbial fuel cells. The findings have indicated that a few cytochromes have played a role in all the processes but that their degrees of participation in each process are very different.
