Genetics of resistance to cotton leaf curl disease in 'Gossypium hirsutum' L. under field conditions
Article Abstract:
The cotton crop's susceptibility to insect pests and viruses in India has led to cotton leaf curl disease (CLCuD) becoming a major problem in the northern part of the country. The identification of sources of resistance and study of its inheritance is vital to the development of high-yielding CLCuD resistant varieties of cotton. An investigation was carried out on germplasm lines of 'Gossypium hirsutum' to identify the additional sources of resistance and to study the genetics of CLCuD in Northern India.

A gene for leaf necrosis in chickpea
Article Abstract:
Necrosis of leaves was seen in the glabrous mutant of desi chickpea (Cicer arietinum L). The oldest leaves were the most affected and the intensity of necrosis decreased towards the apical meristem. Nec, a single recessive gene governed the necrotic characteristic, linked to glabrous shoots. Leaf necrosis is identified as a new genetic trait in chickpea.
