Art
Article Abstract:
The concept 'art,' like 'artist,' 'creativity' and 'aesthetics,' is central to the study of folklore, but there is a dearth of literature that defines and discusses its coverage. The term is prevalently used to mean the ethnocentric, Eurocentric concept of art with its exclusivism and elitist criteria. There is then, a need to shift perspectives, from thinking of art as a product to art as performance and how it relates to the aesthetics of pleasure: its emotional impact on the viewer. The criteria then, is skill, which in turn is culturally determined.

Whence and whither cortex?
Article Abstract:
Neuroscientists and their colleagues in related disciplines met to discuss how new data from developmental studies affect the forebrain evolutionary theory. Some of the presenters of the meeting are Susan Evans who shared a phylogenetic perspective on the evolutionary origins of the mammalian cortex and Karl Herrup who spoke about several aspects of cortical development in mammals such as gene expression, migration patterns of neuronal constituents and factors involved in lamination and areal specification.
