How well do artificial nests estimate success of real nests?

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to compare predation rates between artificial and real nests which differ from each other in a number of ways, including the lack of an incubating adult. The study was conducted in Berks County, PA, near the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. A Wilcoxon matched-paris sign rank test was utilized to test for variations between active and artificial nests. Results suggested the importance of artificial nests in detecting trends in predation rates even though they support potential biases that make data interpretation more difficult.

Reproductive biology of Sabine's Gull in the Canadian Arctic

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the reproductive biology of a colony of Sabine's Gulls which bred in the Canadian Arctic on Southampton Island from May to August in 1998 and 1999. Results are compared with those from 1980.

Measuring annual reproductive success in birds

Article Abstract:

Research concerning the study of breeding successes in birds from simulated data is presented. The clutch sizes, hatching rates, and the number of nestlings reared in a season are measured but not correlated.
