Intercropping increases parasitism of pests
Article Abstract:
Combined planting programs using a mix of cultivated and wild plants appears to control infestation by lipidopteran stem borers in maize and sorghum crops in Africa. Planting the cereal crops with non-host molasses grass significantly cut infestation levels in the main crop and also increased larval parasitism of stem borers by foraging female Cotesia sesamiae. One method of controlling pests in resource-poor regions is to create a management system in which insects are repelled from a harvestable crop but are attracted to a discard or trap crop.

Human SWI/SNF interconverts a nucleosome between its base state and a stable remodeled state
Article Abstract:
Studies were conducted to determine if a human SWI/SNF and adenosine triphosphate can create an altered nucleosomal structure that is stable in the absence of SWI/SNF. Varying preparations of hSWI/SNF complexes were utilized for the study. Results revealed the detection and characterization of the exchange between normal and altered nucleosome conformations facilitated by hSWI/SNF.
