Human biology and aging: recent advances and new directions

Article Abstract:

Human biologists are using several different methodologies to explore several different areas of life expectancy. These methods include individual and population variances, evolutionary effects and integration of different analytical strategies such as behavioral, cultural and environmental processes. Areas under study are aging genetics, lifespan evolution, blood pressure and menopause correlates, and change's longitudinal aspects.

Menopause, local biologies, and cultures of aging

Article Abstract:

This article examines the medical views of menopause and its related symptoms and diseases such as increased risk of heart disease, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's, and stroke due to the impact of hormone level changes. The authors discuss the use of hormone replacement therapy for menopausal women regardless of other social, physiological or cultural characteristics using research from North America and Japan.

Beard vs. forehead, ten years later

Article Abstract:

Earlier research suggested facial area above the eyebrows was proportional to the area of hairy skin below the eyes for men. Over one-third of the original subjects were measured again 10 years after the first study and the results were almost identical, suggesting ontogeny follows phylogeny.
