Hyperproliferation and defects in epithelial polarity upon conditional ablation of alpha-catenin in skin

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the surface epithelium conditionally targeted for the alpha-catenin ablation. Results indicate that due to this epithelium targeting the hair follicle development has been blocked and the epidermal morphogenesis has been affected.

Integrators of the cytoskeleton that stabilize microtubules

Article Abstract:

A novel BPAG1 neural isoform that possesses a microtubule-binding domain was determined which can preferentially associate with microtubules. Such isoform has the ability to interconnect the three cytoskeletal networks, namely actin filaments, microtubules and intermediate filaments. Analysis also reveals that microtubules in cultured neurites that lack BPAG1 tend to exhibit hypersensitiveness. Such phenomenon can be attributed to BPAG1's domain which enables foreign microtubule networks to be stable.
