Identification and enumeration of Listeria monocytogenes by nonradioactive DNA probe colony hybridization

Article Abstract:

Strains of Listeria monocytogenes were identified by DNA colony hybridization based on a cloned hlyA gene and its nearby flanking DNA and the ECL direct labeling system. A modified colony format was used in the evaluation of the sensitivity and specifity of the procedure. Test applications were made with several selective media as its sensitivity was compared with that of a radioactive probe. The viability of the system as an alternative was demonstrated.

Natural atypical Listeria innocua strains with Listeria monocytogenes pathogenicity island 1 genes

Article Abstract:

Generally only a few tests are necessary to classify the bona fide Listeria isolates in the six species of the genus. The Listeria innocua isolate comprises of the members of PrfA, which is the standard accumulation of virulence genes of Listeria monocytogenes.
