Improvement of Bacillus sphaericus toxicity against dipteran larvae by integration, via homologous recombination, of the cry11A toxin gene from Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis

Article Abstract:

Genetic recombinant techniques involving the transfer of heterologous toxin gene is a promising technology in the microbiological control of insect pests. The cry11A toxin gene from Bacillus thuringiensis is incorporated in the chromosome of Bacillus sphaericus to improve the efficiency of the latter in eliminating dipteran larvae. This technology has important implications in tropical medicine because of its potential use in controlling insect vectors.

The phosphopantetheinyl transferase superfamily: Phylogenetic analysis and functional implications in cyanobacteria

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted in which degenerate oligonucleotide primers were designed for amplications of cyanobacterial phosphopantetheinyl transferases (PPT) gene fragments. The phylogenetic analyses suggested a unique, function-based PPT type, which was defined by PPTs involved in hetrocyst differentiation.

Genetic diversity of Cylindrospermopsis strains (cyanobacteria) isolated from Four continents

Article Abstract:

The genetic diversity of Cylindrospermopsis strains was examined using mainly the 16S-23S internally transcribed spacer sequences. The result suggested that spread of Cylindrospermopsis across the American and European continents from restricted warm refuge areas instead of exchanges between continents.
