Love the one you're with: Vertebrate guts shape their microbiota
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to address question of the specificity of the composition of the microbial community of the vertebrate gut. Findings suggest that the gut of a particular vertebrate supports guilds and that many of these guilds are shared between the gut microbial communities of different vertebrates.

Ira Herskowitz (1946-2003)
Article Abstract:
Ira Herskowitz was a molecular biologist and worked on bacterial, phage, and yeast genetics. He showed that yeast and mammals share similar resistnce mechanisms to the anticancer drug cisplatin. He also contributed in the area of pharmocogenomics. He received several awards for his research contributions.

PIDD mediates NF-kappaB activation in response to DNA damage
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to demonstrate that PIDD plays a critical role in DNA-damage-induced NF-kappaB activation. It is found that PIDD acts as a molecular switch, controlling the balance between life and death upon DNA damage.
