MLP-deficient mice exhibit a disruption of cardiac cytoarchitectural organization, dilated cardiomyopathy, and heart failure

Article Abstract:

MLP, a LIM-only protein of terminally differentiated striated muscle cells, promotes proper cardiomyocyte cytoarchitecture, perturbation of which can result in dilated cardiomyopathy. The MLP gene in mice was disrupted to examine its role in muscle differentiation. Results of in vivo analysis showed that MLP-deficient mice reproduce the morphological and clinical picture of dilated cardiomyopathy and heart failure in humans, while ultrastructural analysis revealed significant disruption of cardiomyocyte cytoarchitecture.

Disruption of mouse RAD54 reduces ionizing radiation resistance and homologous recombination

Article Abstract:

An analysis was conducted of the phenotype of mouse RAD54-l- cells. These cells are sensitive to mitomycin C, ionizing radiation and methyl methanesulfonate but not to ultraviolet light. Gene targeting studies indicate that homologous recombination in mRAD54-l- cells is less compared to wild-type cells. The findings suggest that mRAD54 is not required for the recombination processes that generate functional immunoglobulin and T cell receptor genes.
