Effects of pH and energy supply on activity and amount of pyruvate formate-lyase in Streptococcus bovis

Article Abstract:

Results show that Streptococcus bovis responds to low pH and excess energy conditions by shifting from fermentative pathway producing acetate, formate, and ethanol to lactate production.

Molecular characterization, enzyme properties and transcriptional regulation of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase and pyruvate kinase in a ruminal bacterium, Selenomonas ruminantium

Article Abstract:

Research delineates the gene expression, regulation, and enzyme properties of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (Pck) and pyruvate kinase (Pyk) in the methanogenic bacterium Selenomonas ruminantium. Results show that both pck and pyk genes are monocistronic with varying amounts of mRNA production, which is affected by the energy substrate.

Molecular characterization of CcpA and involvement of this protein in transcriptional regulation of lactate dehydrogenase and pyruvate formate-lyase in the ruminal bacterium Streptococcus bovis

Article Abstract:

The ccpA gene that encodes global catabolite control protein A (CcpA) in Streptococcus bovis is identified and characterized and the involvement of CcpA in trancriptional control of a gene (ldh) encoding lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and a gene (pfl) encoding pyruvate formate-lyase (PFL) is investigated. The analysis suggests that CcpA appears to be involved in the global regulation of sugar utilization in S. bovis.
