Mouse knockout solves endocrine puzzle and promotes new pituitary lineage model
Article Abstract:
Creation of a mouse knockout has given answers to questions about the endocrine system and also supports a new pituitary lineage model. Conservation of the vital role of TPIT, the T-box transcription factor, in pituitary corticotrope development and function has been shown. An underlying cause of neonatal hypoglycemia caused by adrenal insufficiency has been found as well. Mice can serve as models for study of human genetic endocrine disorders.

Drosophila double parked: a conserved essential replication protein that colocalized with the origin recognition complex and links DNA replication with mitosis and the down-regulation of S phase transcripts
Article Abstract:
A Drosophila gene, double parked (dup), has been identified. It belongs to a new family of replication proteins conserved from Schizosaccharomyces pombe to humans. DUP seems to function directly in DNA replication. The conserved essential replication protein is colocalized with the origin-recognition complex. It links DNA replication with mitosis and down-regulation of S phase transcripts.

The mouse homolog of Drosophila Vasa is required for the development of male germ cells
Article Abstract:
It has been found that the mouse homolog of Drosophila Vasa is necessary for development of male germ cells. Targeted mutagenesis in embryonic stem cells has been carried out to look into the functional requirement for Vasa homolog gene (Mvh) in mice. It was found that male mice homozygous for a targeting mutation of Mvh are deficient in reproductive functions.
