Neoplastic transformation and aberrant cell-cell interactions in genetic mosaics of lethal(2)giant larvae (lgl), a tumor suppressor gene of Drosophila

Article Abstract:

Genetic mosaics of Drosophila mutant for lethal(2)giant larvae (lgl) were studied to demonstrate that cells lacking the lgl tumor suppressor gene do not promote cell-cell interactions during development. Cells from adult wings mutant for lgl showed abnormal growth and differentiation, indicating defective cell-cell interactions. Further evidence also showed that cells exhibiting neoplastic transformation of imaginal discs also show loss of normal signaling in addition to aberrant cell-cell interactions.

Regulated processing of dec-1 eggshell proteins in Drosophila

Article Abstract:

An immunological approach is proposed to analyze the molecular structure of Drosophila eggshell assembly and to identify the processing intermediates and derivatives of cell transcripts encoding proteins containing different regions of the Drosophila dec-1 gene. Western blot analysis is used to determine the processing pathway followed by each dec-1 protein. Inter- or intramolecular interactions that govern these pathways are also examined.
