Novel methods for genetic transformation of natural Bacillus subtilis isolates used to study the regulation of the mycosubtilin and surfactin synthetases

Article Abstract:

Two novel methods that stimulate the natural and genetic transformation of natural isolates of Bacillus subtilis, which has low genetic competence levels, are described. The methods can be easily used to study the regulation of synthetases of mycosubtilin and surfactin, the two commonly used lipopeptide antibiotics.

Changing a single amino acid in Clostridium perfringens [beta]-toxin affects the efficiency of heterologous secretion by Bacillus subtilis

Article Abstract:

The studies related to differences in the global gene regulation responses of Bacillus subtilis to overproduction of either [beta]-toxin or [beta]-toxoid by transcriptomics showed that the intrinsic properties of a heterologous protein could play a decisive role when optimizing heterologous protein production.

Expression of transcription activator comK of Bacillus subtilis in the heterologous host Lactococcus lactis leads to a genome-wide repression pattern: A case study of horizontal gene transfer

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on horizontal gene transfer (HGT) by introduction of the competence transcription factor comK of B. subtilis into the recipient L. lactis. It was observed that comK is not functional in L. lactis as it is in B. subtilis.
