Organic acid excretion by Streptomyces lividans TK24 during growth on defined carbon and nitrogen sources

Article Abstract:

The Streptomyces lividans (Sl) TK24 strain was cultured in a nutrient media with minimal carbon and nitrogen sources to determine the composition of microbial organic acid excretion. High performance liquid chromatography and enzymic analysis of the Sl TK24 strain organic acids indicated the presence of pyruvic acid and 2-oxoglutaric acid. The microbe synthesized high levels of pyruvic acid due to the acidification of glucose in response to nitrogen depletion in the nutrient medium.

Ferric-reductase activities in whole cells and cell fractions of Vibrio (Listonella) anguillarum

Article Abstract:

Vibrio (Listonella) anguilarum strains belonging to serotype groups 01 and 02 were cultured in M9 minimal nutrient medium to determine microbial ferric reductase activities. Ferric reductase in Vibrio anguilarum strains in M9 minimal medium with 0.2% casmino cids and reduced Fe3+-citrate complex exhibited high basal cell activities. Furthermore, the periplasm, membranes and cytoplasm of the cells also exhibited Fe3+-reducing activity.

The starvation-stress response of Vibrio (Listonella) anguillarum

Article Abstract:

The starvation-stress response of Vibrio anguillarum with regard to its ability to adapt and survive starvation, heat shock, exposure to ethanol and exposure to hydrogen peroxide was investigated. V. anguillarum exhibited a long-term starvation response which was found significantly different from starvation responses of copiotrophs such as Vibrio species strain S14, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas strain.
