PCR detection and analysis of the free-living amoeba Naegleria in hot springs in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks

Article Abstract:

Three previously unknown free-living amoeba Naegleria species are detected in a survey of 23 hot springs in Yellostone and Grand Trenton National Parks as determined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) probes specific for Naegleria. Research also reveals a fourth pathogenic N. fowleri.

Concentration and detection of caliciviruses in water samples by reverse transcription-PCR

Article Abstract:

Research describes the development of an assay system in conjunction with the polymerase reaction technique for detecting human calciviruses in water samples. Data show that using a cultivable primate calicivirus assay model, 0.75 to 1.5 PFU in 40 liters of water can be detected.

Identification of Naegleria fowleri in domestic water sources by nested PCR

Article Abstract:

Research reveals that water from domestic use, where primary amoebic meningoencephalits (PAM) affected children lived, contained Naegleria fowleri, the causative agent of PAM as demonstrated by nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique.
