PIAS proteins and transcriptional regulation-more than just two SUMO E3 ligases?

Article Abstract:

PIAS protein action can either be activating or repressive, although their mechanism of action apparently differs depending on the target gene or interacting transcriptional regulator. The frequent association of PIAS proteins with SUMO-modified proteins has given rise to the suggestion that PIAS proteins might play an analogous role as E3 ligases for the SUMO modification pathway.

Synergistic recognition of an epigenetic DNA element by Pleiohomeotic and a Polycomb core complex

Article Abstract:

The cooperative binding of Pleiohomeotic (PHO) and a multiprotein Polycomb core complex (PCC) with Polycomb response elements (PREs) is discussed. The functioning of PHO sites and PCC-binding elements (PBEs) as an integrated DNA platform result in the synergistic assembly of a repressive PHO/PCC complex.

Regulation of Polycomb group complexes by the sequence-specific DNA binding proteins Zeste and GAGA

Article Abstract:

Purified proteins and complexes that are reconstituted from recombinant are used to characterize the effects of GAGA and Zeste proteins on Polycomb group (PcG) function using a defined in vitro system. Distinct means are used by Zeste and GAGA factor to increase repression mediated by PRC1.
