Paleobiogeography of two Iberian endemic cyprinid fishes (Chondrostoma arcasii-Chondrostoma macrolepidotus) inferred from mitochondrial DNA sequence data

Article Abstract:

Different hypotheses related to the origin and evolution of the endemic Iberian fishes Chondrostoma areasii and Chondrostoma macrolepidotus from northern and central regions of the Iberian Peninsula were tested. A molecular phylogenetic analysis of the mitochondrial cytochrome beta gene showed that the different populations of the northern Iberian Peninsula are clustered into five phylogroups and do not fit into the dichotomy Chondrostoma areasii and Chondrostoma macrolepidotus.

Development and initial characterization of a Bos taurus X B. gaurus interspecific hybrid backcross panel

Article Abstract:

A study of the bovine gene map using a panel of Bos taurus X B. gaurus interspecific hybrid backcross individuals is presented. The study shows that all the offspring are balanced karyotypes, apart from one with sex chromosome aneuploidy. The bovine panel shows that gene order is maintained, despite hybridization.

Predominant African-derived mtDNA in Caribbean and Brazilian Creole cattle is also found in Spanish cattle (Bos taurus)

Article Abstract:

African-derived mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is described in South America and Caribbean native cattle populations, which can be introduced into America from Iberia or by direct importation from Africa. mtDNA variation in Guadeloupe Creole and Spanish cattle is examined to identify African-derived mtDNA haplotypes.
