Partial resistance to root-borne infection by Phytophthora sojae in three allelic necrotic root mutants in soybean

Article Abstract:

Three different mutations in soybean that mimic root infection by Phytophthora sojae are inherited through a single recessive gene and are allelic. These mutants, showing necrotic roots (NR), are not linked to the w(sub 4) locus, to the isozyme loci Mdh1, Dia1, Aco4, Pgm and Idh1 or chlorophyll deficiency mutation in CD-5. Roots of the NR plants are resistant to infections by P. sojae. The resistance is due to accumulation of the phytoalexin glyceollin I and peroxidases under axenic conditions. The plants remain capable of nodule formation by Bradyrhizobium japonicum.

Eight new mutants at the k2 Mdh1-n y20 chromosomal region in soybean

Article Abstract:

Eight new mutants in soybean were isolated at the K2 Mdh-1-n y20 chromosomal region. Genetic type T234 is yellow foliage and Mandell is green foliage, and they were isolated by screening germplasm for malate dehydrogenase variants. Each of the Mdh1 null mutants were allelic at the Mdh1-n locus. Gene symbols have been proposed for the new mutants and the y15 original gene symbol for T234 was deleted.

Cytogenetic analysis of translocations in soybean

Article Abstract:

Seven translocation lines in soybean have been identified, and are an important step towards isolation of other independent translocations. The seven lines are found to be true chromosome translocations and results indicated that six of the 20 chromosomes are involved in reciprocal translocations.
