Phages infecting Vibrio vulnificus are abundant and diverse in oysters (Crassostrea virginica) collected from the Gulf of Mexico

Article Abstract:

Studies conducted on oysters collected from estuaries in the Gulf of Mexico indicate the abundance of phages infecting Vibrio vulnificus throughout the year. V. vulnificus thrived during the summer and fall when phage abundances were at its greatest but were barely detectable from Jan to Mar. Morphotype belonging to Podoviridae, the type of which has an elongated capsid, was especially prevalent in the Gulf Coast oysters compared to Styloviridae and Myoviridae.
