Phospholipid signaling
Article Abstract:
The phospholipid PtsIns(3,4,5)P3 is the principal second messenger in cellular signal transduction pathways that induce PI3-kinase. The small G protein rac forms the main target of PtsIns(3,4,5)P3. Sphingomyelin, a membrane lipid, serves as a metabolized lipid that can form second messangers. Ceramide, another second messenger, targets protein kinases and protein phosphatases that are activated by ceramide. Three groups of protein kinases C participate in the different pathways of phospholipid-activated signal transduction.

The Drosophila gene hid is a direct molecular target of Ras-dependent survival signaling
Article Abstract:
Evidences were presented that the activation of the reticular activating system (Ras) pathway inhibits the proapoptotic activity of the gene head involution defective (hid) in Drosophila by using transgenic animals and cultured cells. It was shown that mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphorylation sites in hid are important for this response. These findings defined a novel mechanism by which growth factor signaling directly inactivates a critical component of the intrinsic mechanism of cell death.

Daughter of sevenless is a substrate of the phosphotyrosine phosphatase Corkscrew and functions during sevenless signaling
Article Abstract:
Drosophila eye movement is controlled by the the activation of the SH2 domain-containing phosphotyrosine phosphatase Corkscrew (CSW), which, in turn, is activated by the sevenless receptor tyrosine kinase (SEV). The search for intermediaries between SEV and CSW has yielded the gene daughter of sevenless (dos), whose product DOS is essential in the signal activation of SEV, and consequently CSW. DOS is dephosphorylated to effect a signal transmission.
