Plasmid-mediated mineralization of napthalene, phenanthrene, and anthracene

Article Abstract:

The role of the NAH plasmid encoded pathway in mineralilzing phenanthrene and anthracene is used to characterize plasmid encoded napthalene degradation in pseudomonas putida PpG7(NAH7). Biochemically and genetically, the degradation pathway of p.putideG7(NAH7) is well characterized. The phenanthrene metabolic pathway and the anthracene metabolic pathway have been characterized biochemically though the genes that mediate phenanathrene metabolism have not been identified.

Use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae BLYES expressing bacterial bioluminescence for rapid, sensitive detection of estrogenic compounds

Article Abstract:

An estrogen-inducible bacterial lux-based bioluminescent reporter was developed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae for applications in chemical sensing and environmental assessment of estrogen disruptor activity. It shows that the strain BLYES fills the niche for rapid, high-throughput screening of estrogenic compounds and has the ability to be used for remote, near-real-time monitoring of estrogen-disrupting chemicals in the environment.

Evidence for 4-chlorobenzoic acid dehalogenation mediated by plasmid related to pSS50

Article Abstract:

The role of the extra DNA fragments, which is found in the plasmids pSS60 and pSS70, in the degradation of 4-chlorobenzoic acid (4CBA) was elucidated. 4CBA is an intermediate in the biodegradation of 4-chlotobiphenyl. The study showed that Alcaligenes sp. strain ALP83 can degrade 4CBA to 4-hydroxybenzoate. Results showed that this activity was correlated with a 10-kb fragment on plasmid pSS70.
