Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon metabolism by white rot fungi and oxidation by Coriolopsis gallica UAMH 8260 laccase

Article Abstract:

The metabolism of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) was investigated using white rot fungi previously identified as organisms that metabolize polychlorinated biphenyls. Bran flakes medium was used as the growth medium for ten fungi grown for five days in the presence of pyrene, phenanthrene or athracene. Mass spectra of products yielded by oxidation of acenapphthene and anthracene indicate that the dione derivatives of the compounds existed.

The Pseudomonas aeruginosa hscA gene encodes Hsc66, a DnaK homologue

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that Hsc66 protein of Pseudomonas aeruginosa functions as a molecular chaperone and is a homologue of heat-shock protein Hsp70 (DnaK) of bacteria in general. Data point out that Hsc66 is involved in protein stabilization and enables the bacterium grow on ethanol and other short-chain alcohols.

The branched-chain dodecylbenzene sulfonate degradation pathway of Pseudomonas aeruginosa W51D involves a novel route for degradation of the surfactant lateral alkyl chain

Article Abstract:

Pseudomonas aeruginosa appears to have more than one catabolic route for metabolizing alkylbenzene sulfonates. A mutant that cannot metabolize citronellol can still metabolize branched-chain dodecylbenzene sulfonates.
