RNA and RNA binding proteins participate in early stages of cell spreading through spreading initiation centers

Article Abstract:

A study used SILAC, a quantitative mass spectrometry-based method, to identify and quantify proteins interacting in an attachment-dependent manner with focal adhesion proteins. Results reveal the existence of spreading initiation centers (SIC), as distinct from focal adhesions, that demonstrate the role for RNA and RNA binding proteins in the initiation of cell spreading.

Proteome analysis of separated male and female gametocytes reveals novel sex-specific plasmodium biology

Article Abstract:

Gametocytes, the precursor cells of malaria-parasite gametes, circulate in the blood and are responsible for transmission for host to mosquito vector. Of all the malaria life cycles stages analyzed the male gametocyte has the most distinct proteome, containing many proteins involved in flagellar-based motility and rapid genome replication.

Global, in vivo, and site-specific phosphorylation dynamics in signaling networks

Article Abstract:

A general mass spectrometric technology is developed and applied for identification and quantitation of phosphorylation sites as a function of stimulus, time and subcellar location. The dynamic phosphoproteome has provided a missing link in a global, integrative view of cellular regulation.
