Regulation of vertebrate cellular Mg (super)2+ homeostasis by TRPM7

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on TRPM7, a polypeptide with intrinsic ion channel and protein kinase domains. The authors demonstrate that TRPM7's kinase domain is not important for its channel activation, and that TRPM7 plays the central role in Mg (super)2+ homeostasis as a Mg (super)2+ uptake pathway regulated via the functional coupling between its channels and kinase domains.

Regulating the regulators: lysine modifications make their mark

Article Abstract:

The authors review publications on molecular machinery which is responsible for proper gene transcription pa tterns in eukaryotes. The topics of interest include ubiquitation, acetylation and sumoylation cases linking covalent transcriptional apparatus modification to their regulatory function.

Maintenance of spermatogenesis requires TAF4b, a gonad-specific subunit of TFIID

Article Abstract:

A study shows that TAF4b, a transcriptional regulator is required for maintenance of spermatogenesis in the mouse. The data obtained from the studies carried out on the TAF4b indicate that it is required for the precise expression of gene products essential for germ cell proliferation.
