Systematic study of gene expression and transcription organization in the gntZ-ywaA region of the Bacillus subtilis genome

Article Abstract:

Researchers have identified 24 polycistronic operons in the 160 kb gntZ-ywaA region of the Bacillus subtilis genome. They encompass 125 genes altogether.

Cloning and sequencing of a 29 kb region of the Bacillus subtilis genome containing the hut and wapA loci

Article Abstract:

Standard techniques help clone a 29 kb chromosome region of Bacillus subtilis genome having the hut operon and the wapA gene. Sequence analysis indicates the presence of 21 complete open reading frames (ORFs) and one partial one in the 29 kb chromosome segment. Nine of the 21 complete ORFs exhibit homology with various known proteins. Genetic data suggest the presence of six genes in the hut operon of B. subtilis and a p-independent transcription terminator follows the last gene.

Sequencing of a 65 kb region of the Bacillus subtilis genome containing the lic and cel loci, and creation of a 177 kb contig covering the gnt-sacXY region

Article Abstract:

The deoxyribonucleic acid sequencing of the lic and cel loci of the 65 kb fragment of Bacillus subtilis genome indicated the presence of 63 genes. The protein products of genes such as deaD, pepT, galE, aldY, msmX, cydABCD, sig Y and katX mediate the activation of adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-dependent ribonucleic acid helicase, tripeptidase, aldehyde dehydrogenase and ATP-binding cassette transporter. Furthermore, the average size of the gene products in the contig of 177 kb in the gnt-sacXY region ranges from 100 to 499 amino acids.
