Singing behavior of lekking Green Hermits

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the spatial and temporal variations in the singing behavior of lekking Green Hermits exhibited a correlation between song production by individual males and by their neighbors on the lek. Among territories, differences exist as to the amount of time that males devote to singing, as well as the total number of songs produced. Specifically, males were more inspired to sing if more birds on the lek are joining in the singing. Aside from varying on the frequency of songs produced, the males also differed in their territorial location on the lek.

Foraging behavior and diet of the helmeted manakin

Article Abstract:

The monotypic Helmeted Manakin (Antilophia galeata) is highly frugivorous and dichromatic. Aside from fruits, the Arthropods eaten by Antilophia are either flying insects or spiders. It forms long-term pair bonds, unlike other manakins which are promiscuous. It inhabits the savanna region of central Brazil. Adult males have black and red plumage; females and immature males are green. Green birds foraged more in the understory and males foraged more in the canopy layer of the forests. The Antilophia has many similarities to other manakin species.

The breeding system of the Orange-Crowned Manakin

Article Abstract:

The lek organization and courtship displays of the Orange-crowned Manakin in northeastern Peru were examined. Most leks were in seasonally flooded or swampy forest, and males maintained loosely packed courts within exploded leks. Males vocalized within leks during the day and sometimes undertook solitary displays.
