Sinorhizobium fredii and Sinorhizobium meliloti produce structurally conserved lipopolysaccharides and strain-specific K antigens
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to show that the K antigens of Sinorhizobium fredii and S. meliloti are characterized by small repeating units of hexoses and 3-deoxy-D-manno-2-octulosonic acid or other 1-carboxy-2-keto-3-deoxy sugars. Cell-associated polysaccharides were extracted from cell pellets using a mini-phenol-water extraction method. Results indicated that the expression of two O antigens by S. fredii USDA205 is regulated by host-specific compounds.

Characterization of RFRS9, a second member of the Rhizobium fredii repetitive sequence family from the nitrogen-fixing symbiont R. fredii USDA257
Article Abstract:
The characterization of the second of the nine copies of the R. fredii repetitive sequence of Rhizobium fredii USDA257 is discussed. Molecular and genetic methods involved in the characterization were dideoxy-chain terminationmethod, oligonucleotide primer-aided sequencing and hybridizations. It was found that the fragment retains extensive homology to the T-DNA of Agrobacterium rhizogenes and to the nodABC-linked repetitive sequence.

Citrate synthase mutants of Sinorhzobium fredii USDA257 form ineffective nodules with aberrant ultrastructure
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on Sinorhzobium fredii USDA257 citrate synthase mutants. The authors have cloned and determined nucleotide sequence of the gene encoding this synthase, and describe the results.
