Specificity of milk peptide utilization by Lactococcus lactis

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the substrate specificity of the oligopeptide transport system of Lactococcus lactis. A chemically defined medium with various mixtures of free amino acids was used to study the growth of L lactis Prt- MG1363. The addition of a mixture with all of the seven amino acids necessary for L lactis MG1363 led to a sevenfold increase in the maximum population density of the strains. Results indicate the strains' ability to sustain growth with the preferential use of hydrophobic basic peptides and their inability to use large, acidic peptides.

New expression system tightly controlled by zinc availability in Lactococcus lactis

Article Abstract:

The new expression system P(sub Zn) zitR, based on the regulatory signals (P(sub Zn) promoter and zitR repressor) of the Lactococcus lactis zit operon, involved in Zn(super 2+) high-affinity uptake and regulation is developed. The P(sub Zn) zitR proved to be a tightly regulated system and a useful tool for controlling protein production in L. lactis.

Ability of Lactococcus lactis to export viral capsid antigens: a crucial step for development of live vaccines

Article Abstract:

The expression of the major infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) antigens VP2 and VP3 in L.lactis are reported. The findings stated that the chickens did not develop any detectable immune response against VP2 and VP3 but did exhibit an immune response against Nuc when Nuc-VP2 was anchored to the cell wall of lactococci.
