Sperm chemotaxis during the process of fertilization in the ascidians Ciona savignyi and Ciona intestinalis

Article Abstract:

The separation of the whole egg into follicle, chorion and test cells and the naked egg revealed that spermatozoa were stimulated and shared chemotaxis toward the vegetal pole of the naked. This did not occur around follicle cells or chorion with follicle cells and test cells, hinting that a substance from the vegetal pole stimulates the sperm and directs them to it in the perivitelline space.

Fertilization regulates apoptosis of Ciona intestinalis extra-embryonic cells through thyroxine (T4)-dependent NF- [kappa]B pathway activation during early embryonic development

Article Abstract:

The role of a fertilization signal in controlling apoptosis of extra-embryonic cells, using thyroxine (T4)-dependent NF- [kappa]B pathway during embryonic development of Ciona intestinalis, is studied.
