Stolbur phytoplasma genome survey achieved using a suppression subtractive hybridization approach with high specificity
Article Abstract:
The modified suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) is used to selectively amplify DNA of the stolbur phytoplasma infecting a periwinkle plant and plasmid libraries are constructed and the origins of the DNA inserts are verified by hybridization and PCR screenings. Results have shown that most of the stolbur-specific SSH sequences are orphan genes, with the exception of two partial coding sequences encoding proteins homologous to a mycoplasma surface protein and riboflavin kinase.

Multilocus sequence typing confirms the close genetic interrelatedness of three distinct flavescence doree phytoplasma strain clusters and group 16SrV phytoplasmas infecting grapevine and Alder in Europe
Article Abstract:
Molecular multilocus sequence typing of phytoplasma strains was used to study the flavescence doree (FD), Alder (AldY) and grapevine yellow phytoplasmas (PGY). The results of the analysis showed that FD, PGY and AldY were members of the same phylogenetic subclade which may have originated in Europe.
