Susceptibility of suspended and surface-attached Salmonella enteritidis to biocides and elevated temperatures

Article Abstract:

Using bioluminescence technique free-floating, attached and detached Salmonella cells were studies to find out their resistance to biocides and high temperature. Cells grown in minimal medium (MM) were more resistant to biocides such as phenol when they were attached. However cells grown in Luria-Bertani medium were more resistant than those grown in MM even in the free-floating state. Temperature resistance was also more in attached or detached cells as compared to free-floating cells.

Cold shock induction of thermal sensitivity in Listeria monocytogenes

Article Abstract:

Research examines the effect of cold shock at 0 to 15 C in reducing high temperature tolerance in Listeria monocytogenes. Chloramphenicol treatment of cells with or without cold shock had no effect suggesting that synthesis of proteins involved in the heat protection is suppressed by cold shock.
