Telosomic mapping of four genetic markers in durum wheat

Article Abstract:

Aneuploid stocks were used to map four recessive genes in durum wheat. Independent segregation of cc and cc-B1a in the F2 and F3 of CBC/CDd1 were observed. Segregation for chaff color among the euploid plants showed that cc was not in the same chromosome arm as the CDd1 gene. Parental marker lines were crossed to appropriate double ditelosomic plants. Map distance of each gene from the centromere was obtained.

Willet M. Hays, great benefactor to plant breeding and the founder of our association

Article Abstract:

Willet M. Hays, a great benefactor to plant breeding and the founder of the American Genetic Association (AGA), developed useful plant breeding methods. He recognized the individual plant as the unit of selection and started systematic pure-line selection and progeny tests.
