The Mycobacterium tuberculosis serine/threonine kinases PknA and PknB: Substrate identification and regulation of cell shape

Article Abstract:

pknA and PknB are predominantly expressed during exponential growth, and the overexpression of these kinases slows growth and alters cell morphology. The data is presented that indicates that signal transduction mediated by these kinases is a novel mechanism for the regulation of cell shape in mycobacteria, one that may be conserved among gram-positive bacteria.

Regulation of mTOR function in response to hypoxia by REDD1 and the TSC1/TSC2 tumor suppressor complex

Article Abstract:

TSC1/TSC2 tumor suppressor complex and the hypoxia-inducible gene REDD1/RTP801 is required for mammalian target by rapamycin (mTOR) inhibition by hypoxia. TSC2-deficient cells maintain abnormally high levels of cell proliferation under hypoxia and as such inhibition for mTOR function by hypoxia is likely to be important for tumor suppression.

Feedback inhibition of Akt signaling limits the growth of tumors lacking Tsc2

Article Abstract:

The genetic relationship between the mammalian Tsc2 and Pten tumor suppressor genes is examined by crossing Tsc2(super +/-) mice with Pten(super +/-) mice. The severity of Tsc-related tumors is limited by the attenuation of Akt signaling.
