The effects of parental quality and timing of breeding on the growth of nestling Thick-billed Murres

Article Abstract:

A study on the growth of nestling Thick-billed Murres was conducted to determine the effects of parental quality and timing of breeding. Results reveal that growth rate and mass during nest departure is negatively correlated with hatching date. Experimental chicks grow faster than unmanipulated ones. It was concluded that results support the importance of parent quality and breeding factors in the growth of Thick-billed Murres.

Molecular assessment of the taxanomic status of Cox's Sandpiper

Article Abstract:

Cox's Sandpiper, Calidris paramelanotos, is a hybrid taxon and involves a cross between Calidris melanotos and Calidris ferruginea. C. ferruginea and C. paramelanotos have identical DNA sequences from the mitochondrial cytochrome-b gene. The sequences of C. melanotos and C. paramelanotos differ by 9%. C. ferruginea is the maternal parent, while C. melanotos is the paternal parent for this hybrid taxon.

Breeding and post-breeding habitat use by forest migrant songbirds in the Missouri Ozarks

Article Abstract:

Research examining the use of habitat of the migrant songbirds found in the Missouri Ozarks during and after their breeding periods is presented. Patterns of abundancy of bird populations in particular types of forests during or after breeding are established.
