The processivity of multiubiquitination by the APC determines the order of substrate degradation

Article Abstract:

Study is conducted to show that substrate ordering depends on the relative processivity of substrate multiubiquitination by the anaphase-promoting complex (APC). The processivity of multiubiquitination is strongly influenced by the D box within the substrate, suggesting that substrate ordering is established by a mechanism intrinsic to APC and its substrates and similar to kinetic proofreading.

The meaning of systems biology

Article Abstract:

Systems biology offers an opportunity to study how the phenotype is generated from the genotype and with it a glimpse of how evolution has crafted the phenotype. One aspect of systems biology is the development of techniques to examine broadly the level of protein, RNA, and DNA on a gene-by-gene basis and even the posttranslational modification and localization of proteins.

A series of ubiquitin binding factors connects CDC48/p97 to substrate multiubiquitylation and proteasomal targeting

Article Abstract:

Various studies suggest the involvement of the AAA ATPase CDC48, its cofactors, and other ubiquitin binding factors in protein degradation. These factors cooperate sequentially through protein-protein interactions and thereby escort ubiquitin-protein conjugates to the proteasome.
