Mammalian hepatocyte differentiation requires the transcription factor HNF-4alpha

Article Abstract:

A very powerful procedure was used to find what happens when HNF-4alpha function is absent in liver development, and it was found that mammalian hepatocyte differentiation must have the this transcription factor. Mouse embryos die if they have no HNG-4alpha, but they were rescued by complementation with a tetraploid embryo-derived wild-type visceral endoderm.

BMPs on the road to hepatogenesis

Article Abstract:

Bone morphogenic proteins (BMPs) and their contribution to hepatogenesis are discussed in this perspective article. BMPs secreted from septum transversum mesenchyme are needed together with cardiac-derived fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) to cause the ventral endoderm to have a hepatic fate. Recent breakthroughs have brought up new questions.

The transcriptional repressor CDP (Cutl1) is essential for epithelial cell differentiation of the lung and the hair follicle

Article Abstract:

The transcriptional repressor, CCAAT displacement protein (CDP) (Cutl1), has been found to be necessary for epithelial cell differentiation of the hair follicle and the lung. The C-terminal Cut repeat 3 and homeodomain exons were replaced with an in-frame lacZ gene by targeted mutagenesis in mice for the study.
