The urgency of research on ageing
Article Abstract:
Gerontology must occupy an important position in biomedical research to gain more understanding of age-related diseases. Researchers should also recognize that cell biology, genetics and molecular biology are in one way or another related to cell and tissue processes responsible for aging. Doctors should not always rely on organ transplants to prolong the life span of the elderly, but rather find ways to delay or prevent the onset of age-associated diseases.

Chance and longevity
Article Abstract:
The existence of 'longevity outliers' (LO) or very long-lived animals in a given population can be attributed purely to statistical factors and chance. When linear survival curves, used to bolster the claim that no survivorship model can adequately explain LOs, are plotted on a logarithmic scale, it becomes evident that the existence of LOs can be attributed to population size. That is, the life-span of LOs is longer when it belongs to a larger population.

The incompatibility of Popper's philosophy of science with genetics and moleuclar biology
Article Abstract:
Karl Popper's philosophy of science is discussed, with a focus on the notion of falsifiability and the problem of induction. Examples from genetics and molecular biology that contradict Popper's view are presented.
