Isolation and characterization of a new denitrifying spirillum capable of anaerobic degradation of phenol

Article Abstract:

Researchers describe the first known member of the alpha subclass of Proteobacteria that can degrade aromatic compounds. It is most closely related to the genus Magnetospirillum and can grow on phenol, benzoate, and other aromatic compounds under denitrifying conditions.

Thermostable NADP(super +)-dependent medium-chain alcohol dehydrogenase from Acinetobacter sp. strain M-1: purification and characterization and gene expression in Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

Researchers have purified an NADPH-dependent alkylaldehyde reducing enzyme that could be used industrially to convert alcohols and aldehydes. Potential substrates include n-heptanal, n-alkylaldehydes from C(sub 2) to C(sub 14), and substituted benzaldehydes such as cinnamyl aldehyde and anisaldehyde.
