Tissue fusion and cell sorting in embryonic development and disease: Biomedical implications

Article Abstract:

The role of adhesion molecules and cell dynamics in tissue fusion and cell sorting is discussed, providing examples of their impact in embryonic development. The concept of malignant invasion, a process whereby the elimination of boundaries and compartments results in intermixing of cells, in effect, cell sorting in reverse is discussed.

The cadherin-catenin complex as a focal point of cell adhesion and signalling: new insights from three-dimensional structures

Article Abstract:

The essential mechanisms underlying cadherin-mediated cell interaction and catenin-mediated cellular signaling are examined. The beta-catenin recognition of other cellular factors shows a remarkable structural diversity.
