Two heads are better than one: regulation of DNA replication by hexameric helicases

Article Abstract:

DNA replication process can be divided into three major steps, namely, the initial assembly of prereplication complex (pre-RC) at the replication origin, the distortion of the origin for replication initiation, and the elongation phase during DNA synthesis. The understanding of the replication helicases involved in cellular and viral DNA replication in eukaryotic cells is discussed.

SUMO and ubiquitin in the nucleus: different functions, similar mechanism?

Article Abstract:

The small ubiquitin-related modifier SUMO posttranslationally modifies many proteins with roles in diverse processes including regulation of transcription, chromatic structure and DNA repair. Certain proteins can be modified by SUMO and ubiquitin, but with distinct functional consequences.

Conjunction-specific small RNAs in tetrahymena have predicted properties of scan (scn) RNAs involved in genome rearrangement

Article Abstract:

A scan-RNA model for genome rearrangement based on finding small RNAs that hybridged preferentially to micronuclear - Twilp, is proposed. The findings indicate that the small RNAs observed in conjugating cells have the properties predicted for scan RNAs.
