Evidence on major gene control of cortical index in pedigree data from middle Dalmatia, Croatia

Article Abstract:

This article examines the genetic inheritance of the metacarpal cortical index (CI) in the Chuvashin population by applying transmission probability tests. Results found that gene models were responsible for 42% of variation and also takes part in control of CI dependence on age, especially at onset of involute bone changes.

Variation of skeletal biomarkers of biological aging in a Chuvashian population: A longitudinal study

Article Abstract:

A cross-sectional and follow-up study were conducted to evaluate age-related changes of osseographic score (OSS) in a large Chuvashian cohort and to evaluate sex differences in age-related changes of OSS. It was found that sex differences regarding the rate of OSS change began in the fifth decade, but became statistically significant only in the sixth and seventh decades.

Genes play an important role in bone aging

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that heredity is a dominant factor directing bone aging in humans. In the majority of studies performed, bone mineral density heritability estimates constitute for around 60% of total bone mass variation. This result was consistent irrespective of selected skeletal site, weight-bearing and nonweight-bearing bones and measurement technique.
