Viral activity in two contrasting Lake ecosystems

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to examine virus-induced mortality of heterophic bacteria over a 10-month period and throughout the water column in two lakes of the French Massif Central, the oligomesotrophic lake Pavin and the eutrophic lake Aydat. Concurrently, nonviral mortality through heterotrophic nanoflagellate and ciliate bacterivory is estimated.

Virus-bacterium interactions in water and sediment of West African inland aquatic systems

Article Abstract:

An examination of virus-bacterium interactions in the pelagic and benthic zones of seven contrasting shallow inland waters in Senegal, Africa including one hypersaline lake is done. The study gives additional information about importance of viruses in tropical areas and shows that strength of virus-bacterium interactions in benthic habitats is lower than that in adjacent bodies of water.
