Winter ecology of the endangered Golden-cheeked Warbler
Article Abstract:
Golden-cheeked Warblers winter mainly in pine-oak habitat above 1,300 mt, according to research into the ecology of this bird during three winter seasons in Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico. It was established that wintering Golden-cheeked Warblers are almost always found as single individuals in mixed-species flocks. There was a lack of vocalization and overt intraspecific interaction between Golden-cheeked Warblers. This is characteristic of other species of birds that arise normally as solitary individuals in mixed-species flocks.

The autumn passage of Yellow-bellied Flycatchers in South Texas
Article Abstract:
The hypothesis that early passage to wintering grounds of adults birds after a breeding season is indicative of high reproductive failure on the breeding grounds was tested in the Yellow-bellied Flycatchers (Empidonax flaviventris). If the low proportion of immatures in the 1988 migrant population means high reproductive failure that summer, adult passage should occur earlier. The results did not support the prediction of the hypothesis, but some confounding factors that may have rendered the analysis inadequate are mentioned.

Winter flocking of insectivorous birds in montane pine-oak forests in middle America
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the foraging behavior of 333 flocks of birds containing 144 species living in pine-oak forests. The effect of vegetation characteristics and mixed species groups on foraging behavior in 26 species is discussed.
