A group is making a multiyear effort to show the importance of ads to marketers and consumers

Article Abstract:

The American Advertising Federation is planning to promote the value of advertising both to marketers and the consumers. Fighting off the competition from management consulting companies that are taking their business away due to the advertising industry's reputation for not providing long-range marketing strategies, the industry is trying to create a new image of itself. The federation wishes to redefine the industry as a service which provides strategic advice, marketing on a broad array of communication tools. The initiative will be overseen by a steering committee of 27 members.

Article Abstract:

Advertising about advertising has become a popular method once again. Advertising that is self-reflexively devoted to inself is prevalent in many forms, including television and radio commercials, billboards, print ads, and the World Wide Web. These are ads that proclaim that they are ads, describe how agencies create ads and parody other ads. They debate how consumers react to ads, and even warn against believing advertising.

The four A's plans a Web site about agencies for marketers to use when reviewing their accounts

Article Abstract:

The American Association of Advertising Agencies is planning to sponsor a nonpartisan, nonprofit data base dedicated to new business. The object is to help marketers conducting or considering ad account reviews and also marketers' agency search consultants by making it simpler for them to obtain information about member agencies.
