A holistic perspective on quality quests and quality gains: the role of environment

Article Abstract:

Studies on Chinese corporations show that business environment affects the implementation of quality management processes. More than 85% of the firms studied cited employee motivation as the primary difficulty in initiatives for quality improvement. A nationwide educational campaign directed to employees, citizens and students may help create corporate environments that are more responsive to quality management.

Maintaining staff enthusiasm for quality management processes can be achieved through several leadership methods. These include setting examples, questioning, reviewing, acknowledging the past, celebrating new accomplishments, planning for the future and promoting continuous learning. These principles also enhance employee development and job satisfaction.
