A shift of emphasis

Article Abstract:

Australian economy witnessed a downtrend in 2004. Rising trade deficit coupled with slow down in productivity and consumer spending were the prime contributors to this downtrend. Australian Reserve Bank was forced to hike interest rates to prevent the economy's slide into recession. Capital investments are what the doctors are ordering now, and if the industrialists balk, the recession is likely to materialize. Exports, which have been the saving grace in the recent past, are another area to be focused upon.
