A strategy for printing money

Article Abstract:

Terry Stone of the pre-press printing company Touchstone Colour capitalized on technological changes in the printing industry and used operational strategy and quality control to earn a substantial profit. He bought an already existing company for $1 million, complete with equipment. In the first year, turnover grew from $89,000 per employee to $133,000. Automated proofing systems reduced re-do work. Unlike other companies, he understands both management and technology, which translate to profit. This economic focus allowed Touchstone to purchase a four-color press that cuts press times by 75%. Turnover in 1997-98 was $4.8 million, a 201% increase over five years.
